How to Apply to MidlevelU's 2017 Nurse Practitioner Residency Program

We can barely contain our excitement here at MidlevelU HQ. Our first Midlevels for the Medically Underserved (MMU) class is about to conveign in Nashville, TN for a two-day kickoff conference. While we'll spend most of our time learning everything from how to crank up confidence as a new grad NP to suturing skills and minor office procedures, there will also be plenty of time for mingling, meeting other participants, and taking in all that Nashville has to offer.

How can you be part of this residency-like program for nurse practitioners? We're glad you asked. The Midlevels for the Medically Underserved application and matching process is pretty straightforward. And, this year, the app is online(!). We have two start dates in 2017, one in April and the other in September.

If you'd like a spot in one of our two 2017 MMU classes, the following steps outline what you can expect if you proceed with the application process (and we hope you do!).

Step 1: Complete Online Application

The MMU online application helps us get to know you on a personal and professional level so we can maximize your chances of success in the MMU experience. The application asks questions about your ideal practice location and setting, as well as why you want to be a part of Midlevels for the Medically Underserved

Step 2: Submit Supplemental Materials

There are a few materials that can't be submitted with the online application. So, we ask that you email or snail mail us the following items:

  • Transcripts from your nurse practitioner program
  • A CV outlining your education and professional experience (must be emailed)
  • One professional and one academic reference
  • Responses to personal statement prompts

Keep in mind that the early application deadline for the April 2017 start is October 1, 2016. The early application deadline for the September 2017 start is January 1, 2017. Submitting your app by the early application deadline increases your chances of being matched in your preferred location

Step 3: Initial Phone Interview

We want to get to know you! Once application materials have been received by MidlevelU, qualified applicants will be contacted for an initial phone interview. This gives us the chance to evaluate your interests and further assess your qualifications.

Step 4: Matching Process

MMU participants will be given information about sites that might be a good fit considering individual qualifications and preferences. Participating Midlevels for the Medically Underserved sites will then be presented with applicants that meet the needs of, and match the culture of the practice. Specialty, location, practice culture, and individual preference will be taken into account in the matching process.

Step 5: Site Interviews

Applicants matching with a MMU site will interview directly with a representative from the site. This gives the applicant a chance to evaluate the prospective site to see if it seems like a good fit for the MMU experience. It also gives the site a chance to further evaluate your interests, qualifications, and fit for the practice.

Step 6: Final Decisions!

Acceptance and matching decisions will be made in collaboration with the nurse practitioner applicants, the site, and MidlevelU. We look forward to seeing you at the Midlevels for the Medically Underserved kickoff in Nashville, TN!

The MMU experience is intense and rewarding. If you have a heart for service learning and a passion for the NP profession, we encourage you to apply!
